"The Advanced Encryption Standard is a specification for the encryption of electronic data established by the U.S. National Institute of Standards. AES is an iterative, symmetric-key block cipher that can use keys of 128, 192, and 256 bits.

The financial industry standard level of encryption for stored digital data is AES 128-bit. This site uses a minimum of 256-bit (higher level) encryption.

The financial industry minimum level of encryption for internet based data transfer connections is RSA 1024-bit. This site uses 2048-bit, several grades higher than 1024 in the level of security.

A Secure Socket Layer allows your connection to a web server to be encrypted. The web browser uses this to encrypt (scramble) all of the data that you send to a server as well as the data which the server sends back to you.
